SSH Fundamental Data Record Release 1 - DMSP

The Special Sensor H (SSH; also known as Multichannel Filter Radiometer ) Fundamental Data Record (FDR) Release 1 covers measurements from four Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellites: F1, F2, F3, and F4, with a temporal coverage from 25 March 1977 until 12 February 1980. These measurements can be used to retrieve temperature, water vapour, and ozone content of the atmosphere. Data from these instruments were previously not available before their recovery from ageing tapes by NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC). EUMETSAT has decoded the data and brought them into a modern data format (netCDF) and conducted a validation of the data. The data should eventually help improve the observational input to climate reanalysis and other applications interested in environmental record before the 1980s.
