AVHRR Fundamental Data Record - Release 1 - MultimissionThis AVHRR Fundamental Data Record (FDR) consists of reflectance and brightness temperatures.
The FDR was homogeneously produced for a period ranging from 1978 – 2021 using PyGAC
(a Python software package to read, calibrate and navigate AVHRR data in GAC format).
It is based on observations from 17 AVHRR instruments on board NOAA satellites TIROS-N
to NOAA-19, as well as EUMETSAT satellites Metop-A, -B, and -C. For calibration the
PATMOS-X calibration coefficients have been applied to visible channels and the nominal
operational calibration has been used for the infrared channels. The polygons, required
for the data tailoring (area of interest selection), show problems with non-continues
data. Some polygons of the data record are found to be incorrect. This only affects
the geographical area selection, but does not affect the correctness of the data itself.
On the 28 October 2024, the dataset was extended to cover the period of 2022 until
June 2024 (satellites Metop-B, Metop-C, NOAA-15, NOAA-18, NOAA-19). Note that as part
of this extension, the entire Metop-C record was reprocessed with improved calibration
coefficients from PATMOS-X.
