Global MWS Level 1b Spectral Radiance (netCDF) - Metop-SGThe MWS Level 1B radiance product consists of time-referenced, geolocated and calibrated
top of the atmosphere spectral radiance measurements. The radiances are quality controlled,
spectrally characterised, and annotated with satellite position and pointing. The
product also contains the brightness temperatures corresponding to the radiances of
all MWS channels. For each scanline, the L1b data is available for all ninety five
earth view pixels.
The MWS instrument is a passive, across-track scanning radiometer capable of measuring
thermal radiance emitted by the Earth and the atmosphere over twenty four spectral
bands in a frequency range from 23.8 GHz to 229 GHz.
The primary role of MWS is to provide temperature and humidity atmosphere sounding.
The main application of MWS L1b data is in Numerical Weather Prediction where the
data is directly assimilated in NWP models. The MWS data also extends the long term
climate records from microwave sounding sensors.
The data is available in BUFR format in collection BUFR Format Products - Metop-SG
(EO:EUM:DAT:0892).
